That's one path to Geek Fitness

Season 4 Episode 9

In the spirit of New Years’ resolutions, we focus on the hot topic of how fellow eGeeks can get/stay in shape. Dan and I share some of our tips as well as some of the tools we use.  Please feel free to share your own tips in the comment section.

Craig also found an interesting article from mid-2011 which talks about the top gadgets of the year so far.  We use the power of hindsight to comment on (ridicule) these top choices.

    Hey guys,
Just thought I’d chime in and say that I bought this relatively cheap 3d camera for AUD$200 and there is something about 3d for memories that makes pictures come alive (though my wife gets sick just looking at them):
    http://www.fujifilm.com/products/3d/camera/finepix_real3dw3/
Note – It’s not really new any more and no longer really selling hence why so cheap in Aus. And having a 3d camera is a bit like that Sprint mobile ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcdAxyDaTLI) which I think the Dad looks like Dan where you make your kids do 3d things all the time!

And also, have to say that My Fitness Pal is a great app though it’s early days for me there so will have to get back to you on that one. For reference, I never plan to run a marathon of any kind, though next time I try to climb Yosemite Falls on the way to TechEd, maybe I won’t almost die!

    Keep up the great work,
    Matt

Glad to hear your concern about fitness. I work out of the home so, like Thomas said, it is a bit easier for me to get some workouts in. The key for me is ease, variety and fun. I have a room in the house which I have a Total Gym, Ab Trainer and Elliptical. Sometimes I do only one, sometimes I combine. Then for fun, I joined a tennis league in my area. Usually play twice/week. A half dozen or so times per year, I go to the skating rink with my daughter. I’m not marathon fit, but I hold my own.

    Folks

Good podcast, made my red eye last week less miserable. Yes, staying in shape is a challenge and for me, with a travelling job, it is tough to keep a watch on what I am eating. Got to try the My Fitness Pal app that Tom suggested. I use run keeper as well but I don’t run outside always, so my account has a lot of manual activity; didn’t know you guys used Run Keeper as well, will send a team request.
I think we should start a eGeeks “biggest loser” challenge and whoever wins gets their eGeeks dinner during TechEd sponsored by other eGeeks. Tom, no, you can’t include all the pounds you lost till now..
