My favorite is that “portal” in spanish means porch/vestibule.
So the person who coined the term portal might have been a native spanish speaker and thought, “well I sit on my porch and see everyone come into the house…that’s a good term for IT”.

Atari 2600…Commodore 64…Even fixing those damn little silver pads that kept slipping. The retro talk brought back so many vivid child hood memories. Do you know I was even lucky enough to own the Collecovision with the steering wheel. Ahh.. Good times…
@matt – yes, as my first PC that started my long journey ,the commodore 64 will always be near and dear to my heart. That’s why I am really not happy after reading the news that Apple recently denied the legally licensed C64 emulator for the iphone… arrrgggghhh! http://tr.im/ropB
